MechaGodzilla 1974 GD-56 Chogokin

MechaGodzilla 1974 GD-56 Chogokin

Bandai released the GD-56 diecast MechaGodzilla 1974 in 2003. The figure stands approximately 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 1 lbs, and is jointed at the head, arms, elbows, hands, legs, knees, ankles, and tail. The figure comes with two heads, one being his standard head position, and other is his head position when he is flying. Why Bandai couldn't just make one head rotatable is another matter. Both heads can open and close their mouth, and by pressing his middle fin on the back of his neck, you can turn his head.

MechaGodzilla comes with two sets of hands, one with his missiles in, and one without his missiles. The chest plate opens and closes, revealing or concealing the chest laser, and the missiles on the knees are removable. They are not spring loaded and do not fire, but again when you remove them it looks as though he has just fired his missiles. His legs are articulated at the hip, knee and at the foot. The ball joint at the foot looks a little strange because you can see where his leg looks very skinny at the ball joint. The joints are all these plastic ball joints, making them pretty easily breakable when, for example, changing heads. Compare this to the GD-45 MechaGodzilla, with metal, clicking and locking joints.

The figure comes in a colorful booklike box. The box opens like a book after you slide off the protective semi-hard plastic cover. The Styrofoam lining on the inside of the box is formed around the contours of the MechaGodzilla, and when opened you see the figure in a plastic bag along with the end section of tail, flying-style head and extra hands.

The figure was released at a high price point and in extremely limited numbers.
