King Ghidorah (Showa) Great Monster Series

King Ghidorah (Showa) Great Monster Series

This version of King Ghidorah, released in 1984, has come to be known by a variety of names; Limited Edition KG, 30th Anniversary KG, Great Monster Series KG, Large Scale KG, and finally Fragile-Winged KG.

All names are appropriate for the figure. King Ghidorah was released as a part of the Great Monster Series, which also included MOSU-Goji and Mothra Larva, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of Godzilla (1954). All three figures are limited in availability, and this King Ghidorah stands approximately 14 inches tall, compared to the 9 inches of most other Ghidorah releases.

The figure gained the "Fragile Winged" name from the fact that the wings on the figure are very susceptible to breakage as a result of the manner in which one connects them to the body. The wings are connected by inserting a thin tab into two slots on the back of the figure. This is also explained in the included instructions. The problem comes in the fact that the wings are fairly weighty, and they tend to break off at the base if actually put on the toy. Thus the strange appearance of the above image, as the wings are placed behind the toy for effect and not actually inserted into the before-mentioned slots.

The Great Monster Series King Ghidorah was released in a box with text and logos on both sides as well as the top. The serial number is printed here as well.
