Godzilla 2001 (Soukougecki-Goji)

Godzilla 2001 (Soukougecki-Goji)

Bandai released this figure in 2001. It's an important figure as it hails the return of the 8 inch scale to Bandai figures as opposed to the 6 inch sizing employed in previous years. Yet the tag is very much like the other, 6 inch, figures in the Movie Monsters series. The figure comes with two tags attached, one much like other Bandai tags, and the other a warning to parents about their children ingesting small Goji parts.

Following in their tradition of producing translucent theater-exclusive figures, Bandai outdid themselves by producing a whopping four different ones for the GMK film, one of each kaiju appearing. The Godzilla exclusive is molded in translucent black. Later, a Crystal, translucent version was released as a store exclusive.

The late 2002 Hyper Hobby magazine mailaway is excellent. It's molded in a translucent vinyl with glitter mixed in Black paint was then injected into the mold, resulting in a deep, glossy black. The spines are themselves airbrushed gold, while the claws and toes are silver. It's really an amazing piece.
