Godzilla 1962 (King-Goji)
Contributed By: Michael Johnson; Description By: Richard Cox

The Bandai Godzilla '62, or KING-Goji, was first issued in 1983, and was the first toy the company released in it's popular line of 8 inch figures. KING-Goji has since come to be one of the most popular and, in many collector's opinions, single most difficult Bandai figure to track down.
The figure's tag on one side has the standard sunburst pattern all of the Bandai tags had from this era, with a closeup of KING Goji's face in the center. The reverse has a 3/4 profile view of Godzilla from Godzilla v. the Thing, which is actually the MOSU-Goji costume.
G '62 has been since reissued twice; once in the 1995 Memorial Box and then in the 1996 Godzilla Forever Series. There are several differences between each of the figures. Firstly, the vinyl of the Memorial and Godzilla Forever G '62 are soft, while the original release is a hard vinyl. The change in vinyl type also resulted in a change in the size of the dorsal spines, the result being that those of the above original issue are much larger than those of the reissues. In addition, the coloration of the original G is green with silver highlights. The later KING-Gojis are a charcoal grey, with white/light grey accents. Then, of course, there are the tag differences, when actually available with the toy.
